Veronica Roth on “When Grrls Fall in Love” Panel at Comic-Con

imagesIn addition to taking part in the Divergent movie panel at Comic-Con, Veronica Roth will be taking part in the “When Grrls Fall in Love” panel, which focuses on “the delicate balance between killing and kissing”.

Here’s the information on Veronica’s addition panel from moderator Sherri Smith’s website:

When Grrls Fall in Love, Saturday, 7/20/13, 11:00a.m. – 12:00p.m., Room: 23ABC
From The Hunger Games’ Katniss to Divergent’s Tris, no one knows how to give a solid ass-kicking like a young adult novel heroine. But when these young ladies aren’t saving the world, overthrowing powerful regimes, or slaying everything from zombies to dragons, they still find time for romance. Cassandra Clare (The Mortal Instruments), Ally Condie (Matched), Veronica Roth (Divergent), Holly Black (The Coldest Girl in Coldtown), Marissa Meyer (Scarlet), Lissa Price (Starters), and Veronica Wolff (The Watchers) discuss the delicate balance between killing and kissing, and what it takes to properly woo a YA heroine.

We don’t yet know if Veronica will be making any additional appearances outside of these two panels, but we’ll keep you updated!

Veronica Roth Sounds Off on Shailene Woodley as Tris and Director Neil Burger

Soon after Summit Entertainment officially confirmed that actress Shailene Woodley was in the final negotiations to play Tris (meaning the role is hers, as long as she signs the paperwork), Divergent author Veronica Roth has come forward with her very positive opinion on the matter via her blog:

From the moment I heard that she was being considered, I have been nothing but enthusiastic. My priority has always been, first and foremost, that the role of Tris be well-acted, and Shailene has proven how talented she is, as anyone who has seen The Descendants can attest. And physically, what’s most important to me, far and away more important than other aspects of her appearance, is that Tris does not look like an action hero– she looks like a slight person with youthful, delicate features, someone who shocks you with how strong and capable she becomes. To me, that is exactly the look Shailene has, exactly the look I’ve always had in my mind. From what I’ve seen, I’m confident she will be able to capture Tris’s particular mixture of vulnerability and strength, and that surprising moment when a seemingly unremarkable girl from Abnegation transforms into a powerful yet flawed young woman.

Veronica also shared her thoughts on Director Neil Burger, who has kept her involved in the film’s creative process:

Neil Burger directed The Illusionist and Limitless, both movies that I enjoyed immensely, both visually dynamic and interesting. Soon after the deal was closed I got the opportunity to speak with him on the phone. I was nervous beforehand– handing over your work for someone else to interpret is always nerve-wracking, and I wasn’t sure what to expect.

But by the time I hung up– an hour and a half later!– I felt very reassured. Neil knew the books remarkably well, and asked some amazing questions about the world and the story, and generally demonstrated tremendous respect for the books and for my answers. I actually found myself wishing he had been around while I was writing, to help me think through the particularities of the world of Divergent! I’m sure I would have been more efficient if he had. Like I have before, I’m feeling like my work is in good good hands. (Cue the Allstate logo.)

We have approval from the author herself, which will hopefully help calm all the naysayers! Shailene Woodley has got a bit of a reputation from starting off on a very poorly written show, but her work elsewhere has shown that she has some really acting chops!

Veronica Gushes Over Hardcover

Author Veronica Roth tweeted and posted a blog about receiving the hardcover copy and International paperback copy of her upcoming book Insurgent.  She teased us with a glimpse of it, so we wanted to share.

and back:

It’s great to see Veronica as excited about the book coming as we are.  She talks about how it feels being a best-selling author and it’s all new to her.

It was quite a remarkable thing, to hold my first book in my hands last year, and to know that years of idle dreaming had in fact become a reality. Sometimes people ask me what it’s like to be published at a young age, and I always sort of frown at the floor and say something like “It feels…awesome,” because I don’t know how to explain it. When incredible things happen to you, they become a part of your normal life, and they themselves start to feel normal. That’s just how human beings are– we adapt. It’s how we survive.

You can read more, including seeing more pictures, on her blog here.

May 1st is just around the corner, so we’ll be able to get our hands on one of these very soon as well.  Just don’t forget to pre-order Insurgent today!
