Excerpt from Summit’s press release:

After media rumors claiming that Alex Pettyfer has landed the role of Four in Divergent spread like wildfire this afternoon, Summit took to the official Divergent Facebook page to shoot it down:
Hey everyone! Despite what rumors you’re hearing, there has not been an official casting decision for Four, or anyone other than Shailene Woodley.
Stay tuned to this page for official news – we’ll let you know as soon as we have confirmed information!
Summit has not even confirmed that Pettyfer is in talks for a role in the film, though they did announce that Kate Winslet was in talks to join the cast last week. We’re hoping that the trend would continue if this story were true.
Just a few more months until the production of Divergent is underway! According to Reel Chicago filming is set to commence this April!
The first Hollywood feature since 2010’s “The Dilemma” to shoot entirely in Chicago is scheduled to start filming in Chicago. Teen action/romance sci-fi “Divergent,” from Red Wagon Entertainment, is scheduled to start filming here in April for 60 days.
Budget is a reported $40 million.
Shailene Woodley has been cast as Tris, and we told you earlier that it looks like Four might be narrowed down to Lucas Till, Jeremy Irvine and Alex Pettyfer, and the rest of the cast is yet to be confirmed, however it looks like there might be some locals cast for the film (for which roles, we do not know).
Claire Simon Casting is casting local actors. Simon also casts “Chicago Fire,” which also is headquartered and shooting at Cinespace.
Sources say that at least 20 department heads from L.A. will be part of the production staff moving into Cinespace, including set decoration, props and set construction. Chicago-based James McAllister is location manager.
According to our very good friends over at Divergent Lexicon, Variety is staking the race for Four to three actors, all of whom come with considerable pedigree: Lucas Till, Jeremy Irvine, and Alex Pettyfer.
As Divergent Lexicon reports:
The hunt for our Four is beginning to narrow down according to reports from Variety. Lucas Till, Alex Pettyfer, and Jeremy Irvine are reportedly in the running to play the coveted role of Tobias “Four” Eaton.
Summit is getting closer to finding its male lead for “Divergent” opposite Shailene Woodley, considered one of the more sought-after roles for a young actor.
Sources tell Variety that Lucas Till, Jeremy Irvine and Alex Pettyfer will test for the role later this week. Summit previously tested Till, Brenton Thwaites, Luke Bracey and Jack Reynor in November.
Veronica Roth’s young-adult novel, acquired by Summit in March 2011, is the first of a planned trilogy. The story has a “Hunger Games”-like teen-on-teen violence in a futuristic setting and follows 16-year-old Beatrice Prior, who Woodley is set to play.
Neil Burger will helm with Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher producing through their Red Wagon banner. Evan Daugherty will pen the script.
Lucas Till is most known for his work in X-Men, in addition to appearing in Taylor Swift’s award-winning “You Belong With Me” video. Jeremy Irvine played the lead character in Stephen Spielberg’s War Horse, and Alex Pettyfer has played several bigtime roles, most notably in Stephen Soderbergh’s Magic Mike.
TheFilmStage.com has reported that four actors have done chemistry reads with Tris Prior actress Shailene Woodley for the role of Four in the upcoming Divergent film!
“Although no one has come out on top, actors include Brenton Thwaites (who is starring opposite Angelina Jolie in the upcoming Maleficent), X-Men First Class and Stoker star Lucas Till, Monte Carlo‘s Luke Bracey, as well as Jack Reynor, who led the TIFF drama What Richard Did (which we quite liked) and joins Vince Vaughn in the upcoming comedy The Delivery Man.”
For those of you who are not familiar with the term, “Chemistry readings” refer to a stage of the audition process in which people being considered for the part act out a scene with the main actor to ensure that that work well together.
Please keep in mind that while these are the only auditions that have been reported, they’re almost certainly NOT the only auditions that will take place, so it doesn’t necessarily mean that one of these four guys will be our Four!
When it comes to Shailene Woodley taking on the role of Tris Prior in the Divergent films, there have been many skeptics in the fandom, despite Veronica Roth herself giving her approval. Members of any fandom can be harsh and quick to judge (think backlash from Harry Potter and Hunger Games casting), so Entertainment Weekly has given fans five reasons to be optimistic about Shailene Woodley in the coveted role!
1. Woodley was one of the contenders to play Katniss in The Hunger Games: The role ultimately went to Jennifer Lawrence, of course, and Woodley has since admitted that the other actress was the right choice. She told MTV in March: “Yeah, I definitely auditioned. It wasn’t, like, a great audition. But I think that Jennifer Lawrence is perfect for that role.” Why is this a good thing? It means she’s familiar with the kind of audience Divergent will attract and that she’s prepared to take on the responsibility of playing a character that could draw lot of attention — media and otherwise.
2. She’s got cred as an actress: Okay, I know a lot of people will be scandalized by the fact that their potential Tris was also the star of The Secret Life of the American Teenager. But have you seen The Descendants? Woodley delivers a powerful performance as a drinking, cursing teen seething with resentment for her father. Imagine how hard it is to act as though you dislike George Clooney. The girl should have gotten an Oscar for that alone. Plus, she comes with a stamp of approval from Clooney himself: “She really elevates that role from a stereotype. You can write and direct it. But at the end of the day, someone has to play it.”
3. She’s committed to her TV show: Say what you will about Woodley or The Secret Life of the American Teenager, but even in the midst of all the hubbub surrounding The Descendants, Woodley stayed firmly committed to the ABC Family series for another two seasons. It has since been cancelled, but Woodley never made the move to ditch it herself in favor of her burgeoning film career. She respects her work, regardless of what anyone says. That’s who I want to see sign on to a franchise that has such lasting potential: someone who will stick with it through the end (which you know is going to be four movies) even if she gets higher profile offers. (There’s rumors E L James wants her for Fifty Shades of Grey…)
