Veronica Roth talked to Buzzfeed about the 19 Things You Should Know About The Divergent Series! This is blissfully FREE OF MAJOR ALLEGIANT SPOILERS!
5. Roth considered writing parts of Allegiant from Caleb’s and Natalie’s point of view.
At the 2013 National Book Festival, you stated that you almost wrote the book from Caleb’s and someone else’s perspective. Can you tell us who that person was?
VR: I tried out Caleb, I tried out Tobias (obviously that one worked), and I tried out journal entries retrospective from Natalie’s point of view to intersperse with the forward narrative. That couldn’t sustain over the entire book, and it didn’t address the story from the angles that I wanted to address it from, so I had to get rid of that one too.
Was it weird writing from Tobias’ point of view or did you love switching voices?
VR: I thought it was fun because Tris’ voice is very stereotypically masculine, very straightforward, very direct, kind of repetitive. Tobias’ is a little more poetic, a little more descriptive, and he generally shares more. Tris is always withholding, but Tobias shares everything, so it was interesting to see those dynamics and how they turned over my expectations of those people. It was fun, but it was hard.

Divergent Life has captured the behind-the-scenes interview with the cast of Divergent at the VMAs!

In a recent interview with Vulture, Miles Teller reveals he originally auditioned to play Four in Divergent, and discusses how he ultimately ended up portraying Peter–see excerpt below.
So the Divergent trailer premiered last night, too. I think I see Peter kicking Tris?
Yeah. That’s my knee. The trailer could have used some more Peter.
They did bring you all the way out here. Are you at all disappointed you’re playing Peter as opposed to the heartthrob, Four? And did you audition for Four?
Well, Theo [James, who plays Four] is very tan. [Mocks sadness.] He’s always going to be tanner than me. No, I auditioned for Four originally and maybe, yeah, that would have been cool to do. But it’s nice to play against type. I think I play usually very likable characters, and so it was refreshing to be on set and not have to make people laugh. It was just like, Get in shape and pick on Shailene. That’s really all I do in that whole movie, just pick on her.
How did you go from maybe playing Four to playing Peter?
I auditioned for Four and then they said I wasn’t going to go further. I said okay. And then the producers had seen Spectacular Now — this was like months after I auditioned, maybe a year later. So they had seen Spectacular Now and they said, “There’s this part Eric maybe you could play.” I said, “I don’t know” — because [as Eric] I’m supposed to be intimidating to Theo. I don’t know if that works. Plus I think Eric would be a little older than me. So then they said, “What about Peter?” And then Shailene shot me a text message saying, “Please come do this movie with me.” It seemed like a good idea: Kate Winslet, the director of Limitless …

Theo James (Four) and Miles Teller (Peter) sat down for a chat with MTV’s Josh Horowitz earlier today in an interview that’s leading up to tomorrow’s BIG teaser reveal at the VMAs. Check out what Theo had to say about kissing Shailene Woodley for the first time on set.
“I just went at it hard, to be honest, because I thought that’s how she wanted it. I thought to assuage any awkwardness I would just go for it. She was kind of batting away my hands,” he said. “It was kind of nice because we had Miles as Peter literally in the background as we were kissing. He was making hissing noises which actually added to the sexuality.”
