Inspecting the “Insurgent” Summary

The summary for “Insurgent” has been posted for some time now.. but I think it’s worth picking apart a bit, to get an idea of what we can expect. Let’s take a look at it! Here’s the summary:

One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris’s initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth’s much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

First thing that jumps out at me, of course, is the whole grappling with politics, loyalty and.. “LOVE.” Ah, no.. can’t it just be perfect? No, no of course not. Then, the thing that scares me is that it seems to say Tris must choose to do the “right” thing, or what she thinks is the “right” thing.. and by choosing that, she’s losing.. something big.

What do you think?! What about all these “decisions” and “choices,” are they making you nervous — maybe making you as nervous as Tris was the day of her Choosing Ceremony — and if they are, shake the nerves and comment below!

Insurgent Teasers! Featuring Amity

TWO new Insurgent teasers have surfaced, via the Divergent fan site on facebook!

“‘Welcome to the Amity compound,’ says Johanna. Her eyes fix on my face, and she smiles crookedly. ‘Let us take care of you.’”

That was posted around 10:00 am this morning.. it sounds semi-threatening and I wonder if there’s more to Amity than meets the eye. (Isn’t there always?) Maybe that teaser can give us some insight to another that had been posted earlier Friday:

All of The Insurgent Teasers Thus Far

In the last few weeks, we’ve been getting a few short excerpts from Insurgent. If it’s purpose was to build excitement for the upcoming sequel, it’s definitely working! If you’ve missed any, check out the five teasers below!

“Before I chose Dauntless…I felt assured of my long lifespan, if nothing else. Now there are no reassurances except that where I go, I go because I choose to.”

“He kisses me again, more insistent this time, his hands squeezing my waist. His breaths, his body, my body, we are so close there is no difference.”

“I point at a window to my left, and it explodes. Particles of glass rain over us. ‘You’ll have to do better than that,” I say.’”

“Caleb runs up to me and folds me carefully in his arms. I breathe a sigh of relief. I thought I had gotten to the point where I didn’t need my brother anymore, but I don’t think such a point actually exists. “

Inspecting “Insurgent” *spoilers*

Let’s take a look at what we know so far when it comes to the second book in the “Divergent” series — “Insurgent”.

We have the synopsis:

“One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth’s much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.”

We also have a teaser from “Insurgent”:

“Before I chose Dauntless…I felt assured of my long lifespan, if nothing else. Now there are no reassurances except that where I go, I go because I choose to.”

What do you make of it? It seems like Tris may be discovering the good and the bad of her society while also trying to discover what kind of person she really is. “Heartbreak” in the snyopsis kind of has me scared, and it sounds as if certain factions will be choosing sides in what seems to ultimately be a civil war. Do you think Tris will come out unscathed? What about Tris’ friends from Dauntless, and her remaining family and friends from other factions?

Sound off.. what do you think of all of the info we’ve got so far, and how do you think “Insurgent” will play out?!

Insurgent Teaser!

Although this page is still a work in progress, I just wanted to share some fangirl (or boy) worthy news! Veronica Roth posted a teaser from Insurgent on the Divergent Facebook page! I’m so ready for May 1st to get here!

“Before I chose Dauntless…I felt assured of my long lifespan, if nothing else. Now there are no reassurances except that where I go, I go because I choose to.”

Let’s get analyzing shall we? I would assume that this quote is referring to the fall of the Factions perhaps, but what are some of your thoughts?
